Denise

Denise MI am a 39-year-old mother of two; Daphne (20) and Chester (17). I had been out of school for over twenty years. I was afraid of words and considered myself dumb. I always desired to write a book, but I couldn’t write a letter to a loved one. Two years ago, I shared this with a friend, and she told me a wonderful story of how she taught herself writing and math skills. Eight months ago, I started on a journey called the Odyssey Project. Writing was my least favorite subject, because all my life I couldn’t spell, read or write well. Now I can write a term paper and read a five hundred page novel in day. I found a writer in me after all! In the fall of this year I will start college at MATC to start on a new journey as a writer.

[Denise published a story about the Odyssey class in the UW undergraduate humanities journal, Illumination]
