Course Content

The Odyssey Project is an interdisciplinary course in the humanities introducing students to great works of literature, American history, moral philosophy, and art history, training them in writing and critical thinking, and exposing them to performances in music and theatre. Students successfully completing the two-semester course earn six UW credits corresponding to Integrated Liberal Studies 203-204, Western Culture and the Arts I and II.

During this September through May course, Odyssey Project students encounter some of the greatest writers, philosophers, historical figures, and artists of all time. Click the link for a partial reading list from 2003-2004. Reading List

At the final class meeting in May of 2004 and May of 2005, students enjoyed trying to guess the authors of famous quotations, whether it was "I wish the rent / was heaven sent" or "In a country which imprisons unjustly, the only place for a just man is in prison." To sample those and other quotations and see if you can identify the authors, try this interactive quiz: Quiz 1. Another quiz asks you to identify the faces of some of the famous people students came to know in the course: Quiz 2 .
